And that is how you interrogate someone. Someone has to be the good cop and someone invariably has to be the bad cop. Why? Because that's how you make thugs talk. It's probably for the best that I didn't make it like the Dark Knight interrogation scene. Only because Steve here isn't like the Joker. Poor Steve. He's going to be going to jail and the last woman he saw is a Russian superspy who hit on him and then crashed all of his hopes and dreams in one full swoop. See, you CAN accomplish great things without superpowers. You just need years of government training. I've been debating making Anya a full time Starbolt. We shall see. Right now, she's like the Black Widow in early Avengers comics. She was their friend. But, didn't join the team until the '70s.

The references here were fun to do. I had to toss in a Leeroy Jenkins reference AND a Gizmoduck reference before I left Moneybagger's. It needed to be done. I look at that suit and I don't think I'll be making any more sprites for that. It's just too silly looking and ineffectual in combat. One flat tire and you're out.

It wasn't easy coming up with the decision to have D.I.S.C.O.R.D. be on the island that exploded. It makes sense that they'd be there. It was the site of their greatest defeat. It will be the site of their great rebirth. Hence the new name "Phoenix Island".

What we find there the next time is going to be gruesome. I'm warning you right now. Bones everywhere. Desolate landscape. Will Jack find the bodies of his friends? Now you can probably tell why there WAS no clone of Jack. It was because he was saved. So, yeah, this is going to be hard on Jack.

Before I go, I wanted to thank writerzblok for helping me out with some stuff. Thanks again! Man, the next comic isn't gonna be pretty.

Starbolts #144: Sneak Attack!

Hail!

Well, this week has been a long week. I'm not going to go into details as to why. But, I hope that the next few weeks are easier. It should be. Anyway, this week's comic has a bit of a spotlight on Angela and what she can do. There's a reason why I've been spotlighting her. Even in the midst of Jack's story! There's a reason for it and it should become clear in the next arc.

In video news, I hope to have a new vid out sometime soon. I've been preoccupied with some stuff like I said. Things should clear up soon and I can work on a vid. Will it be a review? Will it be an animation? Will it just be a dancing monkey? Hmm...probably not the third. Those are hard to come by. Enjoy the comic!

Famicomen Rider: Trial by Thunder

This is a quick story I did for Justin "JewWario" Carmichel of TGWTG.com He had a stream and asked people to write a fanfic starring his Famicomen Rider. Here it is:

Colorado Springs, a city nestled in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains has been known far and wide as a place where many can ski in the winter. However, what isn’t widely known is the dark secrets present in the city that go back to a time when the Pueblo tribe lorded over the area. In those days, the shamen often marked specific areas to perform rituals to summon the great spirits of the land to lay waste to their enemies. Today, the area is a bustling metropolis and those ancient shamen are now relegated to myth and even superstition. However, the Springs would soon realize that many myths have their roots in reality.

A man in a dark purple cloak climbed a ledge overlooking the city and arrived at a large cave. Breathing heavy after such an arduous climb, he composed himself as he saw two others standing by the mouth of the cave. They two were wearing cloaks and to their sides were large spear-like weapons. The two motioned the climber to enter the cave and along the enlightened cave walls, he saw several markings that depicted life in the days of the Pueblo tribe. On one such wall, the image of a large black bird appeared to be clawing at images of a settlement below.

“Are we ready?” One of the men in cloaks asked. “These climbs are getting harder in my old age.”

“You’re over five hundred!” Another exclaimed. “Don’t tell me you sat and did nothing in half a milliena.”

“No…” He responded. “Just in the last hundred years. I…wanted to catch up on my stories.”

“Insolent whelp. Master Hyson will not be pleased.”

“Indeed!” a voice boomed and shook the cave.

The three men turned and saw a severe looking man wearing jet black clothes and an insidious scowl. His head was clean shaven and his muscles appeared to be well defined despite being under baggy clothes. His mere presence commanded authority over the three as they bowed in respect to him. It was obvious that this man was not to be trifled with.

“Master Hyson.” A cloak began as he stood up. “I bring news!”

“Proceed.” Hyson replied.

“One of the people below has become the Famicomen Rider.”

“The Famicomen Rider is a MYTH! No one can contain that much power!” Hyson shouted.

“Sir, I know.” He trembled. “But, I saw it with my own eyes. Someone was able to survive the Warion massacre and became the Rider. It’s hard to believe. But, again, I-I saw it!”

“I see…” Hyson’s voice softened. “Looks like we have a change of plans, gentlemen. Let’s get started.

“Yes, my lord!”

Finishing up a video was always something Justin Carmichel didn’t mind doing. After all, he had been a staunch member of Channel Awesome’s army of reviewers for a long time. As he spooled the cables, he reflected on his life as a member of Channel Awesome now that he has a belt of immeasurable power. He wore the belt proudly and despite what others might of thought, it was no mere toy. This was the belt of the Famicomen Rider. With the power at his command, he could do anything. ANYTHING!

Justin chuckled. There was no way he could do anything but good in the world. After all, the belt was given to him with the explicit instructions to use it to defend Earth from outside forces wishing to harm innocents. After turning toward one of his game racks, he could hear breathing behind him. Startled, the reviewer turned to see one of his good friends, Lewis “Linkara” Lovhaug. However, this time he looked different. He still wore the “purdy” hat and coat he was known for. Along with that, his image flickered a bit as if it was a transmission.

“The Famicomen Rider…” Linkara smirked a toothy grin. “I’ve gotta say Jdub, red and gold look good on you. Mr. Carmichel, you’ve just become part of a bigger universe. You just don’t know it yet.”

“Linkara?” Justin cautiously swept his hand through the hologram. “How…?”

“Comicron-1 has a fancy communication setup. Nimue’s still trying to work out the kinks. That’s not why I’m here.”

“Why are you here?”

“Michaud and Holly sent me.” Linkara crossed his arms. “What you may not know is that Channel Awesome’s reviews are a front for something else we do on the side. We protect this planet and its people from all kinds of threats. ”

“Go on.” Justin cautiously sat down on his couch.

“Shortly after Insano came to prominence, I was approached by Michaud to recruit as many people as I could to help fight the good fight. He needed men and women who were capable of great things and being heroes the world has never seen before because threats were looming in the distance. Angry Joe, MarzGurl, and Iron Liz are just some of who I’ve enlisted to help me fight threats like Lord Vyce and Mechakara. Channel Awesome’s brass has allowed me to assemble a team to fight the foes no one could handle by themselves.”

“…You’ve been ready FAR too many comics, my friend.” Justin laughed.

“Don’t laugh. Why do you think we were sent to Molossia? It’s true that NC wanted to rule a micro nation. There was more to it than that. They wanted to test our resolve for the real battle.”

“Real battle? The battle for Malachite’s hand?!”

Linkara solemnly nodded. “You’ve showed initiative in that struggle and we’ve been watching you ever since. Now that you have the Rider powers, you are ready for the next step.”

“Next step?”

“Justin, how much do you know about the Pueblos of Colorado?”

“Only that they are one of the many tribes that ruled the area before the colonists came. Why?”

Linkara sighed and straightened his jacket. “There was a sect of that tribe that didn’t believe in playing nice with anyone. Native or otherwise. They summoned great beasts like the thunderbird to destroy rival tribes and even their own people. We believe their descendants are in the area and are planning to sick a thunderbird on Colorado Springs.”

Jdub quickly put the pieces together. “You need me to take on these shamen with my new abilities?”

“Yes. You’ve already proven yourself to be a great hero. The rest of us would accompany you. Only, we’ve got some problems.”

“Problems? You’ve got a frakking starship! You could blow them all up!”

“It isn’t that easy! With their magic, they could deflect Comicron’s attacks. We need you to sneak in and take them out. Your city needs a hero, Jdub. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?”

“I…wait…what?”

Linkara sighed. “Just go. And good luck, Channel Awesome Operative JewWario.”
“Thanks! I’ll do my best!”

“I know you will. Linkara out.”

With that, the holographic transmission fizzled out of existence and left Justin wondering how exactly he’d find the shamen. Then, he noticed that his 3DS lit up and once he opened it he saw a map to where they were said to be.
“Alright.” Jdub muttered. “No one is going to set a giant bird onto MY town. Time to go!”

The cool air in the mountains whipped straight through Justin’s clothes as he climbed toward the cave with fierce determination. Holding the Famicomen Rider belt in hand, he decided to put it on in the event one of the cult members would jump him. Then again, that would draw more attention to him than anything else and he knew that he had to be careful with these men. After coming up on a large boulder, he could see two men in robes walking down the rocky terrain. Cautiously, he watched. “Scouts…” Justin thought. “I have to be careful. I don’t want to…” Justin felt someone tap his shoulder and spun around to see one of the robed men glaring at him. “Get…caught?”

“WHO ARE YOU?!” The man exclaimed right in Justin’s face, causing him to wince.
“Someone who thinks you badly need a tic-tac.”

“Insolence is not tolerated by Master Hyson. YOU will come with me.” The man noticed the belt. “You…you’re the Famicomen Rider?!”

“Guilty as charged. HENSHIN!” Justin pulled out a cartridge, blew in it and slammed it into his belt.

Instantaneously, Justin transformed into a figure wearing red and gold armor with a strange insectoid helmet with glowing green eyes. The man he was facing backed off. Justin knew that once he had been spotted, he needed to transform in order to both protect his identity and keep himself safe from whatever the men had planned for the city. The man from earlier called for help and quickly five robed people arrived on the scene.

Surrounded, the Famicomen Rider decided the only way to deal with this group was to do a spiraling kick as many monks as he could. “These are just minions…” he mused as he punched one man out. “I need to find the head honcho before something happens to-“ Justin heard the echoing boom of thunder coming from a nearby cave and suddenly the sky filled with ominous, dark clouds. Thunder began to roar with increasing volume and lightning soon scorched the earth around him as he fought. “The City!” He cried.

“Yes, Famicomen Rider. THE CITY! A city that my ancestors once called home. A city that the thunderbird will wipe off the map!” A voice echoed. "I am glad you are no mere myth. This makes things all the more sweeter."

Quickly, the minions backed away and Master Hyson appeared wearing a black tunic and a strange bird-like crown on his head. In his hand was a glowing staff with a purple orb atop it that glowed like a ball of fire. Before him, the minions bowed in silence as he approached the Rider. Carefully, Hyson circled Justin and scoffed at what he thought was a garish appearance. Underneath his helmet, Justin’s forehead began to sweat. How was he going to handle someone as powerful as Hyson?

“I expected more from the Famicomen Rider.” Hyson laughed. “You wear the suit and yet you are a man-child playing an adult’s game. That, my friend, is foolish.”

“Isn’t it foolish to lay waste to a city of millions?!” Justin snapped angrily.

“Tsk…” Hyson waved his finger as light bounced off of his bald head. “I only do this to preserve the culture that has been lost to time. My ancestors ruled this land with an iron fist and I only want to bring about a restoration of their glory. If Colorado Springs has to suffer, then so be it.”

“So, you want to bring back your culture? Correct me if I’m wrong, but, weren’t they whackos?”

“Insolent dog!” Hyson smacked Justin’s face with the staff. “You have angered me and you have angered the spirits. Now you will face BOTH! AZAN VALU INTA CARA!!!”

Hyson crouched before Justin and a black tornado enveloped the man. His followers ran in terror as Justin remained fixed on the swirling air mass. Once the tornado subsided, Hyson stood before the Famicomen Rider wearing a jet black outfit and bird-like helmet. Standing up, Hyson swung the staff at the rider, causing him to flip backward onto the nearby mountainside. Approaching him again, Hyson moved to jab the rider again and was met with a swift kick that knocked the staff out of his hand.

“MY STAFF!” Hyson exclaimed.

“Don’t tell me…”Justin laughed as he kicked Hyson in the chest. “That was the source of your power, right?”

“No.” He flipped over Justin and landed on a ledge. Once there, he jumped off and activated a pair of glider wings that came out from under his arms.

Above him, Justin could see the clouds swirling and could sense lightning may strike at any moment. Since Hyson was in the air above him, the Rider knew that he only had one shot in disabling the man before he could harm the city. Hyson’s visor began to glow a brilliant red as it shot lightning bolt after lightning bolt at the rider. Justin ran back and as Hyson approached, the rider charged at him and shouted “RIDER KICK!” Justin flew into the air and delivered a charged kick into the stomach of Hyson. Reeling in pain, Hyson flew into the path of a lightning bolt and screamed in agony.

“This isn’t over, Rider!” Hyson shouted while wincing in pain. “Children of the Flock, retreat so that we may fight another day!”

Quickly, the Famicomen Rider found himself alone on the mountainside as Hyson and his followers vanished as if they were never truly there to begin with.
“That was oddly short.” Justin shook his head. “I wonder if Linkara ever has days like this.”

Once the villains were defeated, Justin settled in for the night back at his house. For his second mission out as the Famicomen Rider, it wasn’t that bad he thought. “This actually was a good adventure.” Justin sat back on his couch and glanced at the belt. “I never knew this belt had so much power in it. I’ll have to take good care of it.” Before he could wonder what was going to happen next, there was a brilliant flash of light heralding not just the arrival of Linkara, who was actually in the flesh. With him was Angry Joe who was wearing his trademark leather jacket and MarzGurl who had the staff of “Juno the sorceress”.

“Mang, we could have used MY teleporter!” Joe scolded Linkara.

“For the last time, Joe, MY teleporter is cooler than yours! I actually used the Star Trek sound effect.”

“Guys, what are you doing here?” Justin had an exasperated look on his face, brought on by the shock of seeing his three friends in his basement.

“Well, we wanted to bring you to base in style.” Linkara began. “Rather than simply scooping you up, we thought we’d congratulate you.”

“Me? For what? Saving the city?”

“Nope.” MarzGurl smiled and moved some of her purple hair away from her face. “We’ve thought about it and we’ve come to a decision.”

Linkara watched as Justin stood up. He could see the caution causing his forehead to furrow.

“We want you to accompany us to Joe’s Watchtower. There, you will be sworn in as a member of our league of heroes.” Linkara explained. “We need heroes like you. We need someone people can look up to and be inspired by. Simply put, we need you to be a vital addition to the team. What do you say?”

Justin looked into the faces of his friends he has known for almost five years. Friends whose eyes burned with fierce determination. How could he say no? Standing in front of him were not just people he worked with. They were family. They were heroes. They chose him to help in their fight against people who’d otherwise cause problems worldwide. Smiling wide, he knew he had a firm answer for them.

“Yes.”

Starbolts #143: Angel of Light

Long comic this week, right? Sorry about that. Haha. I wanted to accomplish a few things this week.

1. Show how crazy Moneybagger is. I think that was accomplished ten thousand fold.

2. Have a character arc with Angela. Why her? Well, this week I made a new outro with her and completely redid her sprites as you can see. She's got a new look and I needed to explain it. What better way to do it than by saying "Yeah, your powers evolved more Ang. You got more control over it."

3. I also needed a bridge between this and next week's comic. Various things will be hitting the fan that day. ALL OF THE THINGS!

I also wanted to show just how close Angela and Kevin are. It'll become important after this arc and especially in the next one when...Sorry. I just got a note from my lawyer. He said to stop talking. Er...typing.

Starbolts #142: Trial and Error

Here's a moral question for you all. Is D.I.S.C.O.R.D. right in its claim that Whitefox and co are in the wrong for sending the Soldier Six kids to their deaths on some forgotten island? AND that he's been doing that again with the Starbolt program? OR is Whitefox right in that they've been doing all they can to help the children reach their potential? I see this as two sides to the same issue. D.I.S.C.O.R.D. isn't evil for evil's sake. True, they want to destroy order. However, they feel that they have to shape the world to suit their needs. That is what they're about. THAT is why they are still around. People will follow what they feel is right and D.I.S.C.O.R.D. is one of those organizations that would sugarcoat their deeds in the name of their own righteousness. That is what makes them a threat.

And that is Philosophy 101! This is an age old question. It's up to you to decide who is right. These villains aren't evil for the hell of it. They want a new world order!

Anyway, today I introduce two new sprites for Andrea and Stan. I really needed to change them if they were going to be in the focus this week. They needed a change. Speaking of Andrea, did you see her speech? Damn. You do not want to piss her off. To put it mildly, Mrs. Whitefox went to the Mrs. Weasley school of motherhood. She will be everyone's mom. However, if you hurt any of her kids, she will end you.

She's that tough and I hope I conveyed that well. Andrea is the second Lady Liberty and there's a reason for that. It goes far beyond her powers. It comes from the strength of her character and willingness to lead. She's strong and has always been the type of leader to look out for her charges. Yes, Jack is her flesh and blood son. However, every Starbolt they have trained has become more than just a soldier in a fight against evil. They helped to raise them along with their parents.

That about does it for this week. Next time, we'll be checking in on the Whitefoxes other kids. I hope they're up to proving themselves in the face of Soldier Six. The question is...which side will Jack choose?

Starbolts #141: The Six Zillion Dollar Android

Gentlemen, we can make him better than he was. Stronger. More powerful than a locomotive. Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Ahh, the 1970s to 1980s. Your live action science fiction shows were so quirky, funny and quotable. And most importantly they were marketable. VERY marketable. Especially if you're in that coveted 18-30 demographic.

So, what do we have here? We have Norad's nanobots arguing over how to rebuild him. I wish I could have thought up a line for the purple nanobot. I couldn't really think of anything. I did want to show her. If you recall, Norad was a lovely shade of purple a while ago. That was the same arc that gave us Nor-Mad and Blu-Rad. As you can see Blu-Rad is still depressed as ever. After all, he does have a brain the size of a planet.

Next. we have Norad going fps. I tell you...THOSE panels were a trick to do. I had to make his eye cover a sort of 3D plain. It was interesting. I may do it again. I'm not too sure. Initially, Norad was going to be a head on a hand. I didn't like how that looked when I drew the sprite. I just made him be a little crab like. He won't be in that form long. I could have made a super duper gigantic mech. But, that's neither here nor there. I have Nor-Mad for that. I think that's enough for anyone to be honest.

Starbolts #140: Norad Tracks Scarlett

There are many places I could have went with this week's comic. The first and most obvious would have been the T-1000 way. You know...from Terminator 2: Judgement Day? That would have been hilariously fun. However, Norad is not a blood thirsty android that wants to destroy John Conner. No, I liken him more like Commander Data of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He's curious about the world he lives in. However, you don't want to piss him off. Wait...he can't be pissed off. He has no emotions. Well, you still don't want to cross him. Remember Nor-Mad?

The reason I didn't have him go full on Nor-Mad mode this week is because he only transforms into that when the situation really calls for it. If he had a chance, he'd have transformed into Nor-Mad once Granite appeared in front of him. However, Scarlett was quick with an EMP generator and scrambled his nanobots. Rest assured, I am going to make him out of sterner stuff later. I MAY redo the sprites. I don't know. I like him the way he is and the idea in my head makes him too much like ED-209 from Robocop.

Either way, Norad's had this new form since 2009. I MAY change him. Then again, I may leave it up to you.

In other news, I have a couple choices for my next blog. I MAY do a vid or a Christmas comic. I haven't decided. Either way, enjoy this week's comic! That and tell your Reps you oppose SOPA! I know I don't bring up politics that much in blogs. But, this is a cause I can get behind. Do your part and tell your reps that SOPA will put an end to jobs and change the face of the Internet.

Starbolts #139: Guess Who is Coming to Dinner!

This week I think Jack is on the way to redemption. What do you guys think? I think this kid is on his way to *sees last panel* Oh dear. Uhh...*cough* Nothing to see here, guys! Nothing at all! *sweeps it up with a dustpan* Now, about J.Q. Moneybagger III Esq. Nothing says eccentric billionaire like:

1. A tophat.

2. A monocle.

3. TWO pokemon statues. Because...why not? He's rich and he can do it, damn it!

More on him next week and in weeks to come. I wanted this guy to come off like the Monopoly guy. Why? Because making him like Scrooge McDuck would have been very hard to do. After all, Scrooge is Scrooge. There are no substitutes.

I admit there's not much action this week. That's fine. MORE is coming. TRUST ME. Moneybagger's mansion looks very breakable doesn't it? Hahahaha Evil laughter! I also know I haven't shown the Agents and co trying to get the artifacts. That's fine. The story's focusing on Jack. More action is coming.

Starbolts #138: Old Wounds

*sigh* I miss writing Crystal. I really should bring back the feisty redhead that was pretty much a rebel in the prose version of the story. She liked to drink and sleep around. Sufficed to say she was a handful and eventually I toned her down some. Then I started focusing on the main eight Crystal is still rather fiery. In the beginning, she was kind of shy, introverted and later she just sort of decided to screw it (and anything with a pulse).

I digress. I wanted to show in this comic that the 'Bolts are very cautious about Jack's new friend. She "came back from the dead" and Jack's happy about it. I know "Who wouldn't be?", right? Well, his friends are skeptical and the repercussions of big reveal at the end will be talked about next time. I don't think the 'Bolts are acting like jerks. I DO think they are right on this one. I do have to thank Shea for beta-ing this with me. T'was a good conversation!

Updates and such

Hail!

What's up? Well, I am back from my break and I thought I would update everyone on what I've been up to. This week, I'll be working on a new comic. Expect one a week since I am going to TRY to get the storyline done by the end of the month. Emphasis on TRY here. If it goes into 2012 a little, it's no big loss to be honest. I don't want to rush the story and there's still a lot to cover. So, that may end up happening.

I still need to figure out how I will show the old comics. I have an idea of what to do. It may prove...interesting.

Another thing I am going to talk about is my video. I will definitely have a new Comic Showcase soon. It's going to be Superman #1 and I will have it up some time in December. It should be fun to do because, hey, who doesn't like the man of steel? Well, except Lex Luthor of course.

The videos are going well and I'm actually trying to get a new stinger for each video. So far I've used Manta, Kevin/Norad and Bluestreak. I'll probably have a new one for the Superman review. I just need to think about which one.

Anyway, as for a list of other comics I will do? Well, that'd be spoiling the surprise!

Starbolts #137: The Siren's Call

Hey! Today isn't Saturday? Nope. No it isn't. It's just a Thursday and I'm posting a comic early. It's a long one, I know. I wanted to get a few things out of the way storyline wise. Jack may seem a bit whiny. But, that's sort of the point when you consider the following: The whole point is that he has finally adjusted to his new life as a cryogenic cyborg from the '80s when all of a sudden every old wound is ripped freshly open. Would unbalance the best of them.

Poor guy. We'll see what happens with him and Scarlett soon enough. Will Jack and Snake come face to face, though? Yeah. That's a given at this point.

In other news, I've got the other two DC reboot books I'll be taking a look at. I got Justice League #1 and Blue Beetle #1. After that, I'll be looking at the X-Men Regenesis books. That's the plan so far. Plans may of course change. It's unlikely. But, eh, you gotta do what ya gotta do.

Power outages suck. I spent three days in the dark without power thanks to the freak late October snowstorm we had here in NH. Obviously, this cancelled my plans for the Halloween video I was going to do. No matter. There's always next year, right? I thought so. In any case, I have this week's comic up and man I really like how this turned out. It took me a minute or so to figure out how to do reflections on glass in the last panels. I also modeled Ponce de Leon square after Copley square in Boston. It's not so much TIMES Square. It's got all the glitz of it, though.

One thing I MAY change is the window designs in the first two panels. I'll have to think up better windows. For some reason they just scream "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood" to me. Oh well. Progress is progress and I will be back here next week. Cya!

Starbolts #135: Send In the Clones

There's a lot to cover this week. So, let's get started! Item #1: This comic is full of surprises isn't it? Soldier Six is back from the dead. BUT! Are they really Jack's old friends or are they something sinister? Item #2: Jack and Anya. Hmm...could something be going on with those two? The tension is mounting. And I'm not talking about Jack being frustrated with not finding out about the attackers. Item #3: What exactly is that tornado up to? Hmmm...There's a lot going on this week that'll set the stage for the rest of this year's comic. In the meantime enjoy!

Also, I've picked up several of the new DC relaunch books. I've been debating reviewing Flash #1 or Superman #1 in the coming months. I may actually review both once the buzz for the relaunch dies down. I also got Blue Beetle #1 and Justice League #1. That should give me a good taste of the DC universe. On the Marvel side, I'm still picking up my regular comics. Uncanny X-Men recently "ended" I'm not sure how I feel about it, yet. I will be getting the rebooted title. That should be a fun read! I hope.

In other news, I created an intro for Comic Showcase. Actually, it's more like a rough draft. The final version will more than likely have some changes here and there. I got some great tips from Anthony R and Welshy. That Welshy is a computer genius man. Here it is:

Starbolts #134: Granite State Of Mind

I'm back again with a new comic! What's that? You say there's a song called "Granite State of Mind" that focuses on my home state of New Hampshire? You say that it's also the cover of another song? Well, crap. Looks like I'm gonna have to NOT redo the title for the comic. HAHA! Anyway, yep, that is the same Granite who first appeared in the comic waaaay back when I started doing these. I wanna say somewhere in the single digits. I upgraded him into a mindless beast who can only say his name. Kinda like a Pokemon.

He was about due for a MAJOR makeover. He looks like the lovechild of the Rockbiter from Neverending Story and She-Thing from the Fantastic Four. Speaking of comics, I did see the Avengers trailer and it was many things. MANY, MANY good things. I loved it! I suggest you go check it out!

On the video side of things, I am going to work on the Nova #2 review, soon. In the mean time enjoy the comic and wonder...is Granite really all he seems to be? *scratches chin*

This week, I decided to let the villains take center stage. We don't see them enough and I wanted to show just how crazy D.I.S.C.O.R.D. is. Now, you might be asking "Who is under that blue sheet?" "What the hell is up with that tornado?" "Why are there so many references in those magic words?" All but the last one will be revealed in time. For the third, I just wanted to toss in some random references. Eh, I couldn't think of any magic words. I do know that "COO! LOO! LIMPAH!" will cause my friend Lozchic to twinge a bit. Haha. Sorry, Lozzy! I needed a Tingle reference!

The tornado went through a couple redesigns. At first it was a cloud that Mark described as being "gray poo". LOL. I admit he was right. We wanted to go for something similar to the air elementals in World of Warcraft. I tried making some tornadoes and here we are. I KIND of wish it had arms. But, nah. Not needed.

Next time, I'll have vid up. So, keep an eye out for that as I take a look at Nova #1 (3rd series) See ya then!

Well, Anya has a new powersuit. Poor Dennis is confused! Haha. This of course is a callback to the Samus Aran reveal at the end of the original Metroid. The suit is supposed to be Samus-like. I MIGHT make some changes to it. I do like how the optic blast turned out. It's pretty sweet.

As for Anya giving Jack a stern talking to, that was totally necessary. Then again, Jack has a right to be angry and frustrated. After all, he did sacrifice a lot. I'm thinking D.I.S.C.O.R.D. is a cockroach we can't keep down. Those suckers will turn up no matter what you do. Anyway, see you all back here next week!

Hail!

Well, friends, the start of a story that'll take till the end of the year to finish has begun! D.I.S.C.O.R.D. has returned and no one is safe. NO ONE! Sucks that Anya's without a house now. Don't worry. She won't be homeless for long. I have a feeling she'll like it in Dastara City and fit RIGHT in. That's all I'm saying. The Hammer armor went through MANY, MANY drafts. The first one looked too form fitting for Hammer. So, I decided to go with one that was more bulky. Kind of like Marvel's Titanium Man.

In other news, I really have to thank a couple people this week! First big thanks go out to idiotbox2099. He e-mailed me scans of New Warriors #1 and I'll be reviewing that soon. The second thanks go out to Gethenian who helped me with some Russian words for today's comic. Ven was a big help since all my Russian comes from reading X-Men comics where Colossus is around. Probably not the best example.

Starbolts #130: From Russia With Love

This comic is dedicated to all those who have a Public Relations job where they have to deal with random people. Or in this case four different alien species. Intergalactic diplomacy has never been so...weird. Or random. Everyone in this comic has appeared before. So, there aren't any new characters. Anya and Dimitri first appeared way back in #42ish. They were the Russian superspy team and are going to play a role in the coming storyline next week. The story's going to run to the end of the year, too. Well, I will break for Halloween and Christmas of course.

Still, I had a lot of fun writing this one and I'm pleased on how this turned out. Hehe. Dimitri's covered in green goop. At least he's got that minty fresh smell that women love, right?

I'm still going to work on various vids. In fact, I'm probably going to work on the next one as soon as I hit send. It'll just take some time to hit it. So, which funny bit in this week's comic is your favorite? We have the antics of the Setleth. Gotta love those. The whininess of Danar. Shrall needed to get him out of the palace. The return of Pal'idin! He's always a welcome character. And of course the Leonids.

Of course, I think they're all funny. It's best to have some quirks in these diplomatic settings. Or else it'd get dull REALLY fast.

A long time ago, my friend and frequent blogger on the site, Rabbi, wanted to learn more about Garazo's backstory. Mark and I cooked up this elaborate story and we waited until we had some way to tell it. It was finally decided that it was going to be little Sirak's bedtime story. Hey, it worked, right? The kid is asleep. I...can't forsee any psychological harm in telling this story to a minor. No matter what species you are.

In this story, Garazo is about maybe 13 years old. He's about thirty in the present day. He was tiny for his age back then. He later grew into the fierce warrior we know him as today. Drawing the sangrale took a LONG time and several rough drafts. The first draft looked like something from Dr. Suess. It was bright green and had orange stripes on it.

So, eventually, I drew a small cat-like creature and made it bigger. Am unsure about the size increase process for that sprite. But, it works. It's an alien cat. Who's gonna say different? Still, I did think up some other titles for the comic. Some of which include "The attack of the purple people eater!" Then, Ven tells me it's blue. Looks purple to me! Then again, I may be color blind. Eh, no big deal.

Well, I'm back from vacation with a comic that spoofs summer blockbusters from various times. I didn't select any specific movie while making the comic. Just felt like spoofing several genres of films. Though, I have to admit, Nor-Mad is spoofing Transformers directly. I had to do it. Still, it is good to be back. Now, it's time to be productive and get some work done. Yay productivity!

Starbolts #127: Party in the Sun and Captain America review

Writer's block sucks. No. Seriously. It SUCKS! Last week, I had every intention on finishing the comic and posting it. The problem WAS that I had trouble figuring out what I wanted to have Mr. Dastara say to M'anta that wasn't corny. I wanted to make it sort of like Ma and Pa Kent talking to Clark Kent or something. I decided to ditch that approach and come up with something a lot better. I hope it works. I kind of like it.

This comic is pretty special as it's M'anta's birthday comic. Why is it special? Well, this summer marks the 15th year since he was created. I wanted to do something special for his and retroactively Shrall's birthday. Since it was their day, I wanted to make a comic commemorating it. It's funny, though. Manta's pretty much the only character from those days that HASN'T changed.

Anyway, I got back from seeing Captain America a couple hours ago. What did I think? Well, I liked it a lot! I'm not going to spoil much. But, I will list what I liked:

1. The nod to the original human torch.

2. Stan Lee's cameo.

3. The costume riffing at the USO.

4. The Avengers teaser.

Those are just some of the things I really liked about the movie. It was fun! Is it up there with Iron Man? Definitely! I have yet to see Thor. I assume it's good from what people are telling me.

In other news, I'm gonna be on vacation for a week. I'll be back and you'll see a new vid. What's it about? Well...that'd be telling now wouldn't it? =D See you next time!

Starbolts #126: Jack's Final Mission (Part 6)

Hails and horns! Welcome to the final part of "Jack's Final Mission" It was a long road getting to this point. Lots of conversations with Mark about where he wanted to go with the story. Lots of '80s references to get out of the way. Not to mention this chapter of Starbolts lore. Jack's backstory is interwoven with the others' as it was revealed. He was frozen for a very long time and when he awoke, the young kids he saw in the hallway were now young adults.

As for the last panel, I'm not about to tell anyone what that means. See, I want to be ominous like that. What's coming? Well, we'll see this fall. For now, I'm going to be devoting a month or so to some silly, fun comics since we've had a serious tone for a while now. It's time to bring on the funny! Just remember, humor can't be forced and as always please consult a physician before operating a heavy webcomic.

There's a story behind this week's comic. As there usually is. My friend, Mark, who has been writing the storyline for Jack had said last week lacked bloodspray. So, this week he sends me the script and says "ADD BLOODSPRAY!" So...I did. Mark, I hope you're happy when you read this. =P Good God...The blood! Eh...could be worse, right? I mean at least I never blew up a pla...Wait...yes I did.

Starbolt Babies...We- Hey what's Cobra doing looking at Jack and Scarlett kissing before a mission? He must be up to something! He looks like he's up to something. Eh, it's probably nothing. Look at the chibi Starbolts! Collect the whole set and get baby Norad! Who is Pegasus in this time period. Still, look at the chibiness! Yeah, Jack was opposed to the idea of the Starbolts program. However, he warmed up to it once he was defrosted. We'll see what happens to him and his team next week.

Y'know...I kind of want little Mateo to fly up to Cobra at the start of next week's comic like "HI! Whatcha doin'?" Kinda awkward, right? Anyway, this week's comic is a little long to accommodate the Chibi 'Bolts scene. Originally, I was going to have them just run by. I thought it'd be best to extend it. Makes sense to me since they were in the same area when the mission happened. Just didn't know what happened on it.

It should be known that Jack took the kids to the movies a lot. He even took Jenna and Kevin to see Back to the Future in theaters. It was the first movie he saw with his ocular implants. Clunky aren't they? Eh, he'll get new ones. It'll work out for him.

Was so tempted to give Chibi Mateo Pit's wings from Kid Icarus. Wouldn't fit. Ah well. Enjoy the comics and how the plot thickens!
